How did you get into Road cycling?
I took up road cycling during the 2012 Olympics. After sneaking onto the closed Olympic road race route at 5am on the Sunday morning on my hybrid commuter I became addicted to the speed of the open road.
I spent the next couple of months researching road bikes.
What type of riding did you do before getting into road?
Always MTB - mostly XC but increasingly Freeride towards the end.
Have you ridden abroad much?
When I was a mountain biker I rode the Alps many times - around Flaine, Morzine, Les Arcs and Aosta, as well as the world famous and epic Whistler trails in Canada.
My favourite places to ride abroad are Mallorca and the bergs of Belgium.
What is your favourite trail or road?
A-Line in Whistler is my favourite trail.
Sa Calobra in Mallorca is my favourite climb.
Do you remember your first race?
My first MTB race was as a Junior. I was pretty nervous beforehand and went off far too fast, but was happy with a top 10 finish.
My first road race was at Hillingdon in late 2013. I had checked out a few YouTube videos of the circuit so I roughly knew what to expect. I stayed in the top 10 for most of the race but misjudged the finish. I came 12th in the end.
What are your ambitions for the rest of the season?
Having already progressed to Cat 3, my next aim is to win a Cat 3 race and race in some exciting races like the London Nocturne.
